What would you get when two hotties were put together in a movie? A pounding heart! Definitely not good for the faint-hearted! lol. Add that with their British accent... OMG! Even I could not handle it!!
Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell played two cockney brothers from south London who are in deep financial woes. They approached Uncle Howard for help, he in turned requested a huge favour from his nephews - to murder his ex-business partner who is about to put him behind bars.
A very interesting plot I will say. Go and watch if you want to know the ending of this movie - who turns out to be the braver of the two and who is the one who is finding it hard to continue life as normal after the crime. I won't spoil it for you.\
The movie is directed by Woody Allen so expect a very Woody-like movie.
Happy watching!
PS - The movie had the briefest shot in Brighton... right at the pier! Nicest pier! Boy, was I excited? You bet!!! lol. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Mystery & Suspense |
Oh my goodness!!! What a terribly boring show. It is sooo ala-Blair Witch - recorded from the perspective of hand held video camera throughout the show.
The movie is about a group of friends who get together to give a send-off party to Rob. Then a monster of unknown origin appears and destroys buildings. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character.
The best part is that the movie is not about the monster but the people who are affected by its intrusion. When the attack starts, the cast form a group and try to escape the wrath. What would be the fate of the people is the rest of the story.
Initiatially I wanted to just give 1 star but because of Michael Stahl-David, the movie earned another 1 star from me. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Romance |
I am privileged to be able to watch this way ahead than Singapore. Watched this on one afternoon at Trafford Centre, Manchester. Being a production from UK, it is common sense to be released in the UK first.
This movie is based on a novel from Catherine A. Ahern. If you have not known, she is the daughter of the Irish Prime Minister. And yes, she is also a sister to Georgina Ahern - the fiance of Nicky Byrne (Westlife). *damn her! heh*
Back to the movie, this is such a romantic, sad and moving story. I cried bucket load on my own but I bet I am not alone in the cinema. What I like about this movie is... the Irish influence - the scenery, the music, the accent. It's just oh so perfect!!
Holly Kennedy (Hillary Swank) is beautiful, smart and married to the love of her life - a passionate, funny, and impetuous Irishman named Gerry (Gerard Butler - Yep.. the very Spartan in 300). So when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead.
Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of letters that will guide her, not only through her grief, but in rediscovering herself. The first message arrives on Holly's 30th birthday in the form of a cake, and to her utter shock, a tape recording from Gerry, who proceeds to tell her to get out and "celebrate herself".
In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way; P.S. I Love You.
Holly's mother and best friends begin to worry that Gerry's letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future. With Gerry's words as her guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Westerns |
Some might find it boring with loads of talking but I thought it is an artful brilliance. Simply remarkable. The movie lasts for 2.5 hours.
To sum it up, the show started with the forming of a new gang in 1879, mainly committing train robberies. With his gang depleted by arrests, deaths, and defections, Jesse thought he had only two men left whom he could trust - brothers Bob and Charley Ford. (Bob is a huge fan of Jesse when he was little and inspired to follow in his idol's footsteps). Unbeknownst to Jesse, Bob had been conducting secret negotiations with the governor to bring him in.
On April 3 1882, after eating breakfast, the Fords and James prepared for departure for another robbery, going in and out of the house to prepare the horses. It was an unusually hot day, James removed his coat then declared that he should remove his firearms as well, lest he look suspicious. James noticed a dusty picture on the wall and stood on a chair to clean it. Bob Ford took advantage of the opportunity and shot James in the back of the head.
His assassination proved a national sensation. He was only 34. Pictures can be found at places like Taj Mahal till today. While on the other hand, Bob was anticipating for an applause but instead, he labelled as a coward for murdering James. Bob Ford was later killed by a shotgun blast to the throat on June 8 1892 while his brother, Charley committed suicide.
Brad Pitt is Jesse James while Casey Affleck (yes, the younger brother to Ben) played Robert Ford. Casey has been nominated for the Best Supporting Role for this movie. Watch for it! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Drama |
OMFG!!! Best movie for 2008! Denzel Washington is very impressive with his acting. The story flows nicely too. It is a very drama-eques kind of movie, loads of talking but.... it is never boring. Not a single scene. Well, I may be biased but really, you will not regret watching this. Highly recommended.
This is based on true story. In real life, they are both friends now (I read their interview in People magazine).
Here is the sypnosis of the movie -
"Based on the life of drug-kingpin-turned-informant, Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) who grew up in segregated North Carolina where he watched as his cousin was shot by the Klan for looking at a white girl. He eventually made his way to Harlem where he became a heroin kingpin by traveling to Asia's Golden Triangle to make connections, shipping heroin back to the US in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. He soon made upwards of one million dollars a day in drug sales. Lucas was shadowed by lawman, Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) who finally helped bring the kingpin to justice. The two then worked together to expose the crooked cops and foreign nationals who made importing heroin so easy." | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Comedy |
Top Top Top musical adaptation into movie!
A very chick flick musical but guess what? I watched it with two men! Lol. But we loved the movie alright!! This movie features loads of stars - John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, Christopher Walken, James Marsden, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron (swoon!) and introducing newcomer, Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad) as the main character in this show. This comedy features a remarkable collection of talent of all the cast. Amazing!!
Tracy is a Baltimore high school student who is obsessed with becoming one of the dancers on the local Corny Collins Show and stealing the heart of the lead dancer, Link Larkin. Tracy's mother, Edna Turnblad is worried that Tracy will get hurt while Tracy's dad supports her dream. Nasty mother and daughter team of Velma and Amber Von Tussle are determined to prevent any changes to lily white, homogenous look of the show. Motormouth Maybelle and Seaweed join up with Tracy to fight for the rights of all - Black and Chubby.
If you have not watched it, why wait? Go on! Watch it! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
Went to watch it with one of my good friends, Addien at Vivo. We caught the movie pretty much later after the release date, nonetheless I am glad I did not miss it entirely.
This is the third film of the Bourne Trilogy starring Matt Damon reprising his role as Ludlum's signature character, amnesiac CIA assassin - Jason Bourne. Julia Stiles is a new addition with Edgar Ramirez as a new assassin sent to kill Bourne.
The film continues the saga of Jason Bourne after he survives the harrowing Bourne Supremacy car chase in Moscow, Russia and follows the character as he travels to Paris, London, Madrid, Tangier and New York City to uncover his real identity while the CIA continues to send assassins after him.
It is a great great movie and of course, it is a great joy to be seeing London and Paris in the movie!
I want to be the female version of Jason Bourne. Can?!
Enjoy! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
Rush Hour 3 is the third installment in the martial arts/action-adventure starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker that began with Rush Hour (1998) and continued with Rush Hour 2 (2001). The film is set in Paris and Los Angeles.
Academy Award-winning film director Roman Polanski co-stars as a French police official involved in Lee and Carter's case. Tzi Ma reprises his role as Ambassdor Han, Lee's boss and friend who appeared in the first installment.
The movie really cracked me up especially at the car-chasing part. Basically laughing myself silly but it was good as I hadn't been sleeping for 48hrs prior to watching this. Though I find Chris Tucker's voice a little annoying and screechy. : ) | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Animation |
Great great movie to watch. It may not be a fanciful and colourful cartoon like Ratatoille or Nemo but it is hilarious. Some may not like it but I really do. Najib, my friend, and I laughed from the 1st minute up to the 88th minute. Too funny.
This movie is a total hoot. You guys MUST go and watch it! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Sports |
You think I will give this movie a miss?!?! No way dude! This is the continuation from Goal the first movie. After establishing himself comfortably with Newcastle United FC earlier on, Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) is now wanted by Real Madrid, joining his ex-NUFC teammate, Gavin Harris (Alessandro Nivola). He settles pretty quickly by scoring the wonder goals as a super-sub.
In the first movie, the focus was mostly on how he turned into a professional footballer. However, in this second installment, it is showcasing more into his personal life - the life changing experience being far away from his fiance - Roz (Anna Friel) - in Newcastle and him in Madrid, as well as finding his long lost mother who abandoned him while he was young.
As for the matches featured, it is a bit funny that all of the games are from the Champion's League. I don't recall seeing a Spanish League game. Guess who they play against in the Final? Yup, it is against Arsenal!!! I don't know if I am feeling excited or insulted as you know, the only final Arsenal got to was last 2 season against Barcelona. @@ --> rolling my eyes
My only comment is on the fictional player for Arsenal - TH Harper who is potrayed as a nasty player who likes to wind up the opponents, a character which RvN will play brilliantly IMHO. It is such a shame that they have to create this to sensationalise the movie. And why Arsenal?!?!?!
And oh... I saw the "Beast" and I cringed.
There will be the third sequel to follow up. Watch for it! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Drama |
Made a spontaneous decision and went to watch this movie after a friend of mine cancelled our meeting. I know I would love this movie. It is British-made and based on a true story about an inspirational and remarkable Scottish cyclist that inspired the nation.
In 1993, an unemployed, Graeme Obree (Johnny Lee Miller), broke the world one-hour record on a bike of his own revolutionary, which he constructed out of scrap metal and parts of a washing machine. He was unfortunately, stripped off his title. This only served to motivate Graeme to break the record again, while also battling mental illness with the support of his wife and his manager (Billy Boyd).
I am sure not many will fancy this type of movie but... I truly love it. I love European movies. In my humble opinion, they are more artistic and simply just so different from the typical Hollywood movie. Three people went out of the cinema 30mins into this movie. Pffttt... They just do not appreciate arts. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
I am never a fan of transformers since young. I am more of a Smurfs and Carebears fan. But as a movie fan, I still went to watch Transformers the movie.
So, what did I think of the movie? I like it. Yeah the plot is nice. The Autobots are damn cool. Optimus Prime is the coolest man. These robots transforms into cars... oh wow.. sooo very cool. I like the grand battle between the noble Autobots (who are protecting the humans) and the devious Decepticons.
On some parts, the movie is hilarious. Other parts, it really irritates me especially the characters of Sam Witwicky (Shia Le Beouf) and Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) who I think can better save their "lovey dovey" moments to later rather than DURING the fights between the robots. The boy talks too much. The girl tries too hard. Pffttt!!
Another part that really bothers me is when Sergeant Lennox (the HOT Josh Duhamel) decides to bring it to the city... where are all the policemen?? Don't they communicate and inform of what is to happen, gun fights et al? People are running here and there during the battle and still running after half hour of the fights... which I find is totally ridiculous!
My last comment is on some of the characters which I think is redundant and play no major impact at all like Maggie Madsen (Rachael Taylor), Glen Whitmann (Anthony Anderson) to name a few. Because of these unnecessary scenes, the movie is stretched to 2.5hrs.
All in all, I only love the robots scenes.. it is titled TRANSFORMERS after all.
Enjoy the show if you are watching! | Hot Fuzz | Jun 25, '07 10:40 PM for everyone |

Went to watch this uproariously funny movie over the weekend with an ex-school mate at AMK Hub. (it is a brand-new cinema people! by Cathay)
This is a typical British comedy (something that is REALLY ME hehe). Personally I think British humour is much more hilarious than Americans. Just my one opinion.
Back to the movie, Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing - the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford.
Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but over-eager police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Forst). The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman (Jim Broadbent), Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy" and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for. Angel is quick to dismiss this as childish fantasy and Danny's puppy-like enthusiasm only adds to Angel's growing frustration.
However, as a series of grisly accidents rocks the village, Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens, Danny's dreams of explosive, high-octane, car-chasing, gunfighting, all-out action seem more and more like a reality. It's time for these small-town cops to break out some big-city justice.
You can see short appearances by other famous British actors namely Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman, Timothy Dalton and Steve Coogan.
Go and watch this people. It is a HOOT!!! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Animation |
Went to watch this cartoon at VivoCity with Doll and Dils. As expected, there were plenty of kids around. The cartoon is pretty good. I think it is better than the other penguin's movie. It is hilarious.
The story is about the world of competitive surfing. Teenage Rockhopper penguin Cody Maverick (Shia LeBouef) leaves his family and home of Shiverpool, Antartica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off and take part in his first pro surfing competition. He is followed by a camera crew to document his experience.
Along the way, Cody meets surf nut Chicken Joe (Jon Heder), famous surf promoter, Surf talent scout and spirited lifeguard Lani (Zooey Deschanel), all of whom recognise Cody's passion for surfing even if it's sometimes goes too far.
Cody believe that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires but when he unexpectedly comes face-to-face with a washed up old surfer named Geek (Jeff Bridges), Cody begins to find his own way and discovers that a true winner isn't always the one who comes in first. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
Took time out after finishing work earlier on Wednesday. Went to Bishan to watch this sneak preview. Well... not a bad movie but not a great one. I am kind of disappointed with the plot. A little too shallow and not much Ommphhh to it.
Nevertheless, I still enjoyed oogling at Human Torch. :)
After the death of Dr.Doom (Julian McMahon), the Fantastic Four think life is back to normal. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffurd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) make plans to get married but are interrupted when the Silver Surfer (Doug Jones) and Galactus show up, trying to destroy the earth and it's up to the fantastic four to deal with them, as well as with the return of Dr. Doom.
With Von Doom back in his homeland of Latveria the fantastic four have new troubles when Galactus has decided that Earth is his next target. When his henchman, the Silver Surfer is sent to Earth, he discovers that he's getting more than he bargained for when he encounters the Fantastic Four. But that's not all when Dr. Doom decides that after two years in the homeland he is ready to return. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
A very nice movie to watch. They managed to pull all the original casts for this final sequence (that is what is said). Definitely better than Ocean's 12.
Casey Affleck is such a hunk! Of course, besides Brad Pitt and George Clooney that is. :)
What are the odds of getting even?
Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and the gang would have only one reason to pull off their most ambitious and riskiest casino heist - to defend one of their own. But they’re going to need more than luck on their side to break The Bank. Ruthless casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) never imagined that the odds were against him when he double-crossed Danny Ocean’s friend and mentor Reuben Tishkoff (Elliot Gould), putting the distraught Reuben in a hospital bed in critical condition. But Bank miscalculated badly. He may have taken down one of the original Ocean’s eleven, but he left the others standing and worse for him, gave them a shared purpose: to take Bank down on the night of what should be his greatest triumph - the grand opening of his new casino, appropriately named The Bank.
Their strategy is twofold. First they will ruin him financially by turning the tables on the precept that the house always wins. But that’s just money. The knockout punch will be to Bank’s personal pride and joy: his reputation as the only hotelier who has earned the Royal Review Board’s Five Diamond Award on every single one of his hotels.
The plan is elaborate, dangerous and damn near impossible but there are no limits when it comes to one of their own. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
A highly recommended movie. I loveeeeee this sequel. Funny half of the time. It is 2.5 hours long but trust me, it will be over before you realise it.
Johnny Deep, charming as ever. Orlando Bloom, swwwwwwooooonnnnn. Keira Knightly, could be prettier if she got back more flesh on her. She is too skinny for my liking.
After Elizabeth (Keira Knightly), Will (Orlando Bloom) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) rescue Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the the land of the dead, they must face their foes, Davey Jones (Bill Nighy) and Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander). Beckett, now with control of Jones' heart, forms a dark alliance with him in order to rule the seas and wipe out the last of the Pirates. Now, Jack, Barbossa, Will, Elizabeth, Tia Delma, and crew must call the Pirate Lords from the four corners of the globe, including the infamous Sao Feng (Chow-Yun Fat), to gathering.
The Pirate Lords want to release the goddess Calypso, Davey Jones's damned lover, from the trap they sent her to out of fear in which the Pirate Lords must combine the 9 pieces that bound her by ritual to undo it and release her in hopes that she will help them fight. With this, all pirates will stand together and will make their final stand for freedom against Beckett, Jones, Norrington, the Flying Dutchman, and the entire East India Trading Company. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Comedy |
Perhaps nowhere in sports is the marriage of athleticism and grace more evident than in the arena of world champion pairs figure skating - the lifts, the jumps, the routines. It's an elegant world, a rarefied universe, a noble place populated by the crème de la crème of skating elite. Well, it used to be.
When the macho, swaggering Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Farrell) takes to the rink, he is the rock star of the arena, leaving a trail of thrashed ice and shrieking female fans in his wake. The only competitor who can match Michaels' scores is the driven former child prodigy, Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder).
Spotted as a youth executing triple lutzes on the frozen pond of an orphanage, MacElroy was whisked away to days of endless training, and now stands as the picture of poise, the personification of the highest ideals of the men's sport.
Michaels and MacElroy have met in finals rounds before, but their latest head-to-head at the World Championships - when they tie for first - is more than either one can bear and their longstanding rivalry erupts into a no-holds-barred fight. The ensuing brawl not only sets fire to the World Championship's helpless mascot, but lands both athletes in hot water. Chazz and Jimmy are called before the sport's governing board, stripped of their gold medals and banned from the sport for life.
Now, three-and-a-half years later, both men are still trying to find their way in a world without competitive skating. Michaels has devolved into a drunken party machine, skating as a costumed evil wizard in a kiddie ice review, and MacElroy has been banished to the shoe department of a chain sporting goods store. But then, inspiration strikes, and a loophole emerges. To skate again, all Chazz and Jimmy have to do is set aside their long festering hatred of one another and join forces - as the first male/male figure skating pair to compete in the history of the sport.
Hilarious but at the same time, a lame movie. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Romantic Comedy |
This is a French movie starring my favourite French actress, Audrey Tautou.
It's about the haves and the have nots. Jean (Gad Elmaleh) works at a 5 star hotel in Biarritz as bartender, dogminder, you name it.
Irene (Audrey Tautou) is pretty much a Holly Golightly. She's the mistress of wealthy older men, getting baubles and beads in the hope of a long term commitment. Taking time out one night she mistakes Jean for a younger version of what she's aiming for but later found out that he is just a staff at the hotel.
When they reconnect in the South of France, Irene wants nothing to do with Jean, the loser but he seems eager to win her heart. She compromises him financially but he's saved at the last minute by a wealthy widow Madeleine, (Marie Christine Adam), who thinks he's a gigolo.
Of course while these two continue to deceive the people who are bountiful to them they are becoming increasingly attracted to one another.
There was something tacky about this film, as if all is excused for love.
And I know for some people the lovely Audrey Tautou can do no wrong her character is slightly unpalatable for far too long here. Gad Elmaleh portrays the dorkish loser with some charm I must admit.
I love this movie. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Horror |
Darma (Pierre Andre) is traumatised by the mysterious death of his fiancee, Rose (Intan Ladyana). Not satisfied with her unexplained death, Darma decides to investigate the case with the help of Rose's twin sister, Seri (also played by Intan Ladyana). As they probe into the death, a series of strange occurrences start to unravel, leaving Darma in a disturbed state of mind that affects his life and career. When he is advised to take a week's break from work, he returns to his hometown to rest. Unknown to him, he is only getting closer to solving his fiancee's death and the truth behind the strange happenings.
As usual for horror movies, I will only watch 10% of it as the remaining time, I will be busy closing my eyes and covering my ears from the sound effect. LOL.
Overall, the movie is not bad only the ghost could have been done up better. I think his grandmother looks scarier than the ghost. LOL.
